HAVE you been to a “Welcome to Country” ceremony? Do you know what it really means? A new book called Welcome To Our Country is an invitation to connect with First Nations culture, to acknowledge the hurt of the past, and to join together as one community with a precious shared history as old as time.
Written by former Sydney Swans star Adam Goodes and Ellie Laing and illustrated by David Hardy, it invites you and your family to imagine yourselves into Australia’s past, to feel the richness of our First Nations’ history, to acknowledge that our country was never terra nullius, and to understand what ‘welcome to our country’ really means.
This is the first in a series of five books from Allen & Unwin designed to connect young children, parents and educators with First Nations history and culture.
To celebrate its release, Funday has 15 copies to give away. To enter, colour in the picture and then ask your parent or carer to take a photograph and email it to
funday@sundaytelegraph.com.au.
Please put Welcome To Our Country in the subject line and fill in the coupon so we can contact you if you are a winner. Harry the Dog and the Funday team will only select the best 15 entries to receive the books, so make sure you get creative. Entries must be in by Thursday so the winners can be published on the Health Hacker page in next week’s Sunday Telegraph.
