This SBS and Diversity In Food Media Australia competition aims to uncover new and inspiring voices and content creators who have their own food stories to tell and that reflect and celebrate diverse Australia. Tell us your journey through food and you might just win! #sbsmyfoodjourney #enternow

Food is a unifier. It is sustenance, but it also connects people, cultures and regions from across the world and within our own homes. SBS Food has partnered with Diversity in Food Media Australia and we are looking to celebrate brand-new content creators in food.

Whether you have a first-person memoir, an audio excerpt or perhaps something more visual, we want to encourage you to be brave and bold, and share your ideas by entering our SBS Diversity in Food Media Competition.

This competition aims to uncover new and inspiring voices and content creators who have their own food stories to tell and that reflect and celebrate diverse Australia.

Prizes

The first prize is a $3,000 cash prize.

There will be a $1,500 cash prize awarded to two highly commended pieces.

Audio

There will be one winner and they will receive a $1,500 cash prize.

One mentorship session with Audiocraft.

Visual

There will be one winner and they will receive a $1,500 cash prize.

SBS Diversity in Food Media Competition 2022 | Terms and conditions

Competition: SBS and Diversity in Food Media Competition 2022

Promoter: Special Broadcasting Service Corporation (ABN 91 314 398 574) (SBS) of 14 Herbert Street, Artarmon NSW 2064. Phone: 1800 500 727.

Entry Restrictions: The competition is only open to Australian citizens or permanent residents, currently living in Australia; aged 18 and over, and who are not published authors of a book (written) or regular food media contributors, employed as a radio presenter or prominent podcaster (audio) or previously managed by an agency or gallery (visual). Employees of the Promoter, the Prize Supplier(s) and associated companies and their immediate families are ineligible.

Competition Period:

Commences: 9am (AEDT) on February 21.

Closes: 6pm (AEDT) on March 21.

Maximum Number of Entries: One per person.

By entering this competition the entrant is acknowledging that they approve of and grant all rights necessary to the Promoter to enable the Promoter to share and use the content in any way and in any media (including sharing on social media) and that all participants (and where necessary their parent or guardian) are aware and approve of this use.

How to enter:

During the Competition Period, entrants must go to sbs.com.au/myfoodjourney and follow the directions to complete the online entry form through Award Force.

Entrants must agree to sign up to the SBS Food e-newsletter.

Entrants must register their details, including (but not limited to) name, address and phone number. By providing this information you agree to be contacted by the Promoter to provide all required contact details.

Entrants must submit a piece under one of the three categories: Written, Visual or Audio. Please read ‘How to enter’ on the program page for all submission details and requirements.

 

Major Prizes include:

There will be one Major Cash Prize for each of the three categories.

SBS: Written entry

First-place Major prize winner will receive a cash prize of $3,000 cash

Two Runners up will each receive a cash prize of $1,500 cash

The Major Prize is valued at AUD $3,000.

Audiocraft/Diversity in Food Media: Audio entry

1 Major prize winner will receive $1,500 cash ($500 awarded by Audiocraft, $1,000 awarded by Diversity in Food Media).

Diversity in Food Media: Visual entry

1 Major prize winner will receive $1,500 cash, awarded by Diversity in Food Media.

The total value of all Prizes: $9,000

Prize Supplier/s: SBS Food – Special Broadcasting Service for the written component; Diversity in Food Media Australia for the visual component; Audiocraft and Diversity in Food Media for the audio component

Winner Selection:

One major Prize Winner under each category will be selected from all valid entries.

Two Runners Up will be selected from all valid entries under the Written category.

Entries will be judged on a weighted criterion of:

Expression - encompassing the ‘journey through food’ theme.

Technique

Storytelling

A panel of five judges selected by the Promoter will judge valid entries and the Winner/s will be selected on May 9 via the judging panel organised by SBS.

Prize Winner Notification:

The Major Prize Winner will be notified by email and/or phone on May 9.

The names of all the winners will be published on the SBS Food website on May 12.

 

General Terms and Conditions

Entry into the Competition is deemed acceptance of these terms and conditions. Information relating to the Competition and the above Schedule form part of the terms and conditions for the Competition. The Promoter may vary these terms and conditions from time to time at its sole discretion, subject to the approval of the relevant state authorities.

Eligibility to enter the Competition is subject to the Entry Restrictions above.

To enter the Competition, entrants must complete the process outlined in the Entry Details during the Competition Period. Any entry received outside of the Competition Period will be deemed invalid.

Entrants may enter the Competition up to the Maximum Number of Entries. Each entry must be submitted separately and meet the eligibility requirements.

Incomprehensible and incomplete entries will be deemed invalid. No responsibility is accepted for late, lost, delayed or misdirected entries.

The Promoter reserves the right to request proof of identity, proof of Australian residency status at the nominated Prize delivery address and proof of entry validity, in order to claim a Prize. Acceptance of proof of eligibility is at the discretion of the Promoter. In the event that an entrant cannot provide proof, their entry will be deemed invalid.

All valid entries are automatically entered into the Winner Selection process, which will take place at the times and dates set out in the Schedule, including any specified Second Chance Draw.

The Promoter’s decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.

Winners will be notified in accordance with the Winner Notification details in the Schedule.

SBS is committed to preserving the trust and confidence of all Australians, who rely on SBS’s editorial independence and integrity across all its content. SBS independently determines what is broadcast and published on SBS platforms and reserves the right to edit entries for publication in line with the SBS Code of Practice.

All Prizes are as depicted or described in the Schedule and, unless otherwise specified, are not transferable or exchangeable and cannot be redeemed for cash. The Promoter is not responsible for any additional costs associated with the use of the Prize.

The Promoter accepts no responsibility for any loss, damages, or injury incurred to enter the Competition or in connection with taking up the Prizes.

Once Prizes have left the Prize Supplier’s premises, no responsibility is taken for Prizes damaged, delayed or lost in transit.

The Promoter reserves the right to disqualify any entrant submitting an entry which, in the Promoter’s opinion, includes objectionable content.

This Competition is a game of skill and chance will play no part in determining the Winner. Each entry will be individually judged, based upon literary and creative merit.

All entries must be the original independent creation of the entrant and free of any claims that they infringe any third party rights. Entries must not have been published previously and/or have been used to win prizes in any other competitions.

The Promoter takes no liability for any tax issues which may arise from accepting a Prize in this Competition. Consult an independent tax adviser if this is a concern.

Except for any liability that cannot be excluded by law, the Promoter (including its officers, employees and agents) excludes all liability (including negligence), for any personal or permanent injury or loss of life; or any loss or damage (including loss of opportunity); whether direct, indirect, special or consequential, arising in any way out of the promotion.

Neither the Promoter nor the Prize Supplier or their associated companies is responsible, to the extent permitted by law, for acts of god, acts of terrorism or war (declared or undeclared), state of emergency or disaster, or other events beyond the Promoter and the Prize Supplier's control which prevent the Competition from running as planned or prevent awarding or acceptance of the Prize in accordance with the Prize description. If such acts or events occur, the Promoter reserves the right to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the Competition or suspend or modify a Prize, subject to state regulations.

The Promoter and the Prize Supplier/s assume no responsibility for any error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, delay in operation or transmission, communications line failure, theft, destruction or unauthorised access to, or alterations of entries, and reserves the right to take any action that may be available.

If for any reason, this Competition is not capable of running as planned, due to causes including, but not limited to tampering, unauthorised intervention, fraud, technical failures or any other causes beyond the control of the Promoter which corrupt or affect the administrative security, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of this Competition, the Promoter reserves the right in its sole discretion, to take any action that may be available to the fullest extent permitted by law, including to disqualify any individual who tampers with the entry process, and to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the Competition. Subject to state regulations.

By entering this competition, the entrant acknowledges that they approve of and grant all rights necessary to the Promoter to enable the Promoter to share and use their entry in any way and in any media (including sharing their entry and personal details with SBS, Diversity in Food Media Australia and Audiocraft) and that all participants (and, where necessary, their parent or guardian) are aware and approve of this use.

Entrants consent to their full names and/or their entries being used in all media by the Promoter. Entrants acknowledge and agree they may be required to participate in promotional activities while taking up the Prize. Your entry will be held by SBS and by SBS’s technology provider who supplies this competition platform, Award Force.

The Promoter may use entrants' names and details for promotional, marketing and publicity purposes. The Promoter may also be required to disclose your personal information to its contractors, agents, co-promoter and to state and territory gaming departments to assist in conducting the Competition.

All details of the entrants received by SBS will be used and preserved in accordance with the Australian Privacy Principles and the SBS Privacy Policy. A request to access, update or correct any information should be directed to the SBS Privacy Officer. Unless otherwise notified, the Promoter may use the entries and details of entrants for promotional and publicity purposes. Some of the information provided through your entry may include sensitive information (for example, information relating to race, ethnicity, disabilities or sexuality) and by voluntarily providing any sensitive information to SBS, you consent to SBS collecting that information. This sensitive information is collected only for SBS’s internal use to understand the diversity of our entrants and the interest in the diverse food landscape to help inform our future content, and it will not be shared with our co-promoters.

Any entrant found to be using multiple emails or social media accounts to enter the Competition may be disqualified at SBS’s sole discretion.

Entrants acknowledge this Competition is in no way associated with or sponsored or endorsed by Facebook. Any information disclosed by entrants entering this Competition is not provided to Facebook. Any questions, comments or complaints regarding this Competition must be directed to the Promoter and not to Facebook.
