With a legacy of over 20 years at Walker Street Gallery and Arts Centre, the SHE exhibition (7 February – 31 March 2023) is back celebrating women artists. Challenging and exploring historical views of women, SHE of mind and body depicts body image, women’s empowerment, mental and emotional health. It reclaims traditional perceptions of textiles and celebrates art by and for women.
As part of the exhibition, we invite you to submit an original piece of writing of up to 500 words based on (and including) one of the titles used in previous SHE exhibitions (see below). Any style/genre of writing can be submitted.

Open Category (all ages): $1,000 prize
Under 18 Category: $500 prize
Highly Commended: book prize
All entries selected will also be published in the SHE of mind and body exhibition catalogue.

Conditions of Entry
1. All entries must be based on (and include) one of the titles used in previous SHE exhibitions. Inclusion can
either be the title of the piece or in the body of the written piece:

• SHE who dreams
• SHE who must be obeyed
• SHE of mind and body
2. By entering the SHE Writing Competition, you agree to the City of Greater Dandenong Council publishing
your writing and name in the SHE of mind and body exhibition catalogue and on Council’s website and social
media pages as part of exhibition promotion and other arts initiatives.
3. Entries can be in any writing style and must be the original work of the artist. By entering this prize writers
are confirming they are the creator and owner of the entered work and have not breached any copyright
laws in the creation of the work.
4. Writing pieces are to be 500 words or less.
5. No more than one entry per participant.
6. Must be submitted as word/pdf format.
7. Employees and immediate family members of council employees of City of Greater Dandenong Council and
immediate family members of the judging panel are ineligible to enter.
8. Entrants agree to their work being reproduced by print and electronic media in the exhibition catalogue,
advertising and promotion of the exhibition, Walker Street Gallery and Arts Centre and Arts in Greater
Dandenong. This may be in full or excerpts of the work. All reproductions will be credited with the author's
name and title of the piece.
9. City of Greater Dandenong Council reserves the right to determine the selected entries for publication.
10. Winners will be decided by the judging panel and their decision is final.
11. Works considered offensive in terms of pornographic content, character denigration, racial or religious
prejudice will not be published.
12. Entries close 5pm, Friday 10 February 2023. SHE of mind and body exhibition runs from Tuesday 7 February -
Friday 31 March 2023.
13. Chosen writers agree to be added to the Arts in Greater Dandenong e-newsletter mailing list and will be
provided with an electronic invite to the opening event to circulate to their networks. Participants are
encouraged to promote the exhibition via their social media. Please include the social handles:
@artsingreaterdandenong (for Facebook) and @cityofgreaterdandenong (for Instagram). Using the hashtags
