Win a Family Pass to See Bangarra Dance Company Perform Waru

Journey of the Small Turtle!

Tune into Mornings with Ben McEachen all this week for you chance to win a family pass to see the Bangarra Dance Company in their first dedicated piece of work for children, Waru – Journey of the Small Turtle opening on 28 September, for the spring school holidays.

In Bangarra’s first dedicated work for children, join heroine Migi as she undertakes a journey of discovery and survival. A contemporary saltwater Lagaw Kazil (Island Children) story inspired by the totemic system of the green turtle, Waru.

Waru – Journey of the Small Turtle is an interactive and immersive introduction to Torres Strait Islander culture and dance for three- to seven-year-olds, premiering at Bangarra’s newly renovated home in Walsh Bay from September 28 to October 14, 2023.

Under the star-illuminated skies of the Torres Strait, a green turtle navigates her way back to the beach where she was born. The season has started, the turtles are returning to nest, and soon the island will welcome a new generation of hatchlings – among them, our small turtle friend, Migi!

Waru – Journey of the Small Turtle provides a unique opportunity to open up conversations about climate change, caring for the environment and the traditional cultural values of respect and reciprocity.

Inspired in part by Turtle (Corroboree, 2001), choreographed by Stephen Page, Peggy Misi and Elma Kris.

Family pass will be valid for 2 adults and 2 children any available show at Wash Bay, Sydney venue. Running time: 45 minutes, no interval. Recommended for ages 3 and up. Children under 12 months are admitted for free as long as they can sit on a lap and do not require a seat. This production contains haze.
