SILVERCHAIR was born as the Innocent Criminals in a suburban garage in Newcastle, New South Wales, in the early 1990s. The three high school kids who formed this iconic band were Ben Gillies (drums), Chris Joannou (bass guitar) and Daniel Johns (vocals and guitar). There has been much written about Silverchair over the years, but this book is written by two of the three members of the band, who go back to the time before the band, sharing their influences, their challenges and their triumphs. They relate their years in the spotlight with unflinching honesty. As any musician will tell you, being in a busy, touring band is like being in a marriage but with more than one spouse. The dynamics can be complex and require careful navigation. In alternate chapters, Ben and Chris write candidly about the golden years of Silverchair, the exhilaration of success, and the minefield that comes with fame.
