In 1972, a group of 48 teachers took the bold step to create a ‘people’s bank’.

They pooled their individual contribution of $10 into a shoe box and we were born. Our first loan was made to a single mother to cover her rental bond for her family. Today, it is still a ‘people’s bank’ – one for teachers, nurses and allied health professionals – the people who care.
