2024 Shade for Schools Competition

deemed acceptance of these Terms and Conditions.
2. The objective of the competition is to increase the shade provision available to students at a
Western Australian school.
Entry format: Complete the entry form online at www.GenerationSunSmart.com.au or complete a

NB: The 50-word statement on intended shade use on the entry form represents an expression of
interest only. It is not a judging criterion.
3. Entry is open to all Western Australian schools that have a valid membership of the SunSmart
Schools program by the closing date of Friday 8 November 2024. Valid membership of the program
requires that the membership renewal date be after the closing date. SunSmart Schools must renew
their membership every three years to stay current. A list of member schools and their renewal
dates can be found at www.GenerationSunSmart.com.au
4. A school that is not currently a member of the SunSmart Schools program must complete a
SunSmart Schools application and meet program criteria to validate their entry to this competition
prior to the closing date. Details can be found at www.GenerationSunSmart.com.au or by calling
( 9388 4351 or emailing sunsmart@cancerwa.asn.au. All SunSmart School program applications
received by 17:00 WST on the closing date will be considered. Competition entries will only become
valid if the SunSmart Schools program application is successful. Shade competition entries will be
accepted until 17:00 WST on 8 November 2024.
5. Only one entry per school is included in the draw.
6. All valid entries will be placed into the draw and one school (the winner) will be chosen at random.
The draw will take place at the offices of Cancer Council WA between 17 November 2024 and 24
November 2024.
7. The winning school will be notified by telephone by Monday 25 November 2024 and announced on
the websites GenerationSunSmart.com.au and www.myuv.com.au
8. Cancer Council WA’s decision is final, and no correspondence will be entered into.
9. Grant conditions: Win $10,000 for Shade - Grant is up to a total of $10 000 + GST. Only one grant is
available. Grant money must only be used for an approved project involving the construction of one
or more substantial permanent shade structures, portable and/or natural shade within the school
grounds and the directly related costs for the erection or planting of that shade. No benches,
seating, play equipment or other non-shade casting constructions are eligible. Grant money must
not be set aside for the ongoing maintenance of the shade structure.

2024 Terms and Conditions
10. Grant money cannot be allocated retrospectively to cover the cost of recent shade installations at
the school.
11. The winning school must submit to Cancer Council WA a proposal outlining how it intends to use
the Shade grant, together with two quotes. In extenuating circumstances, Cancer Council WA may
in its discretion permit one quote to be submitted. If Cancer Council WA is satisfied with the
proposal, it will approve the project and confirm the amount of the grant in writing. If Cancer
Council WA is not satisfied with the proposal, it will assist the winning school to develop a proposal
that meets the objectives of the Shade grant.
12. Cancer Council WA reserves the right to view documentary evidence, including photographs of
shade construction prior to releasing the funds. Funds are paid direct to the shade vendor or to the
school on presentation of an invoice at the completion of the shade project.
13. Shade projects must be completed by 31 December 2025. Invoices must be received by Cancer
Council WA on or prior to this date.
14. Any ancillary costs associated with redeeming the funds are not included.
15. Entrants consent to Cancer Council WA using the school’s entry (or part thereof), in any media for
an unlimited period without remuneration for the purpose of promoting the SunSmart message.
16. Cancer Council WA reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to the fullest extent permitted by law
(a) to disqualify any entrant; or (b) to modify, suspend, terminate or cancel the competition.
17. All costs associated with applying for or using the funds is the entrant’s responsibility.
18. Except for any liability that cannot be excluded by law, Cancer Council WA (including its officers,
employees and agents) excludes all liability (including negligence), for any personal injury; or any
loss or damage (including loss of opportunity); whether direct, indirect, special or consequential,
arising in any way out of the entry, including, but not limited to, where arising out of the following:
(a) any technical difficulties or equipment malfunction (whether or not under the Cancer Council’s
control); (b) any theft, unauthorised access or third party interference; (c) any entry that is late,
lost, altered, damaged or misdirected (whether or not after their receipt by the Cancer Council) due
to any reason beyond the reasonable control of the Cancer Council; (d) any variation in monetary
value to that stated in these Terms and Conditions; (e) any tax liability incurred by the winning
school.

20. Where it is lawful to do so, these Terms and Conditions may be updated to address any errors or to
clarify information and re-published online at www.generationsunsmart.com.au.
