Abyss is the third solo album from Berlin-based artist Annika Henderson, a clear shift from her past work, replacing electronic and dub textures with guitar-driven rock sounds. Recorded live with minimal overdubs, the album channels the visceral energy of '90s grunge, and '70s punk elements, with specific reference points including Courtney Love's Hole, Pixies, The Breeders, PJ Harvey, and X-Ray Spex.

Lyrically, the album tackles the complexities of contemporary life: social constraints, political anxiety, and personal struggle. 'Hearsay' targets "parasites feeding off the blood of the public," critiquing news media and social platforms. 'Oxygen' uses suffocation as a metaphor for the suppression of rights and freedoms. The title itself, Abyss, emerges from Anika's own observation that "the world just feels like an abyss right now". Driven by distorted guitars, forceful rhythms, and Anika's powerful words, Abyss transforms this anguish into a spirit of collective defiance.
