Closes 13 July 2025, 11 pm
Win a copy of Buluunarbi and the Old North Star AOTW

Buluunarbi and the Old North Star is the landmark debut collection of original songs from Roger Knox, beloved as the 'Koori King of Country'. A proud Gomeroi man born in Moree, Roger's musical experiences span decades, from singing gospel in church choirs as a child to touring with his family band Euraba in his forties.

His contributions to Australian music have earned widespread recognition, including the Jimmy Little Award for Lifetime Achievement, induction into the National Indigenous Music Awards Hall of Fame and the Tamworth Country Music Galaxy of Stars, and NAIDOC National Artist of the Year honours.

Now in his 70s, Roger is writing and recording his own songs for the first time. His warm baritone voice carries songs that speak of the Stolen Generations, connection to Country, and cultural pride. He sings of Middle Camp where his mother was born before being taken from her family, and Toomelah Aboriginal Mission Station where he was raised. He honours the sacred Boobera Lagoon, and the powerful legacy of fellow songman Dougie Young.

Working alongside collaborators including Toby Martin, Jason Walker, and Jon Langford, Knox weaves together country, gospel, and folk traditions. Family threads run throughout the album too. Son Buddy Knox contributes guitar and vocals while grandsons anchor the rhythm section. The resulting record serves as both personal testimony and communal archive, offering listeners a pathway toward understanding, unity and healing.

For local audiences, Roger will bring these powerful songs to Naarm, appearing as special guest of Dick Diver at the Thornbury Theatre Ballroom on Sunday, 3 August.
