Directed by Richard Linklater, Blue Moon is a sharply observed biographical drama that zeroes in on one defining night in the life of legendary Broadway lyricist Lorenz Hart, played by four-time Oscar-nominated actor Ethan Hawke.
Set almost entirely on March 31, 1943 — the opening night of Oklahoma! — the film captures Hart at a personal and professional crossroads, wrestling with creative decline, unspoken regrets, and the quiet sting of watching his former collaborator Richard Rodgers thrive with new partner Oscar Hammerstein II. The strong ensemble includes Margaret Qualley, Bobby Cannavale, and Andrew Scott.
Blue Moon marks the ninth collaboration between Hawke and Linklater, a creative partnership that stretches back decades and includes the Before trilogy and Boyhood. The film currently holds an impressive 90% score on Rotten Tomatoes and the response has been equally strong on the awards front. Blue Moon recently earned two Golden Globe nominations, including Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy and a Best Performance by a Male Actor nomination for Hawke.
