Be our Washington correspondent!

We're giving you the opportunity to interview Megan Washington at Bluesfest with accommodation and 5-day festival passes thrown in...

If you would like to experience all the sights and sounds of the 2011 Bluesfest, as well as having the opportunity to interview the ARIA Award winning Megan Washington, all you need to do is tell us what question you would ask Ms Washington and why you would ask it.

The most creative, original and thought provoking entry will win.

The prize includes 6 nights on-site acommodation in your very own tepee, camping passes, 5-Day festival passes for you and a friend plus an opportunity to meet and interview Megan Washington on Sunday 24 April.  This interview will be recorded and played on ABC Dig Music. 

During the competition, an ABC Dig Music producer may call you to record you asking the question to use on-air.   

Note: the prize does not include transport to Bluesfest.  Please read all the terms and conditions before entering.

ABC Dig Music – Be our Washington Correspondent


Terms and Conditions
This document sets out the terms of participation in ABC Dig Music “Be our Washington Correspondent” competition (the “Competition”).

1. The promoter of this Competition is the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (the “Promoter”) (ABN 524 292 78345), 700 Harris Street, Ultimo, New South Wales, Australia.

2. Entry to the Competition is open to all Australian residents. An entrant must be an individual and not a company or organisation. Entrants must be 18 years or over.  Employees of the Promoter and any person associated with the Competition, and any organisation or individual associated with the provision of the prize(s), are not eligible to enter.

3. Each entry must be entered in accordance with these Terms and Conditions.  By entering the Competition, each entrant agrees to be bound by these Terms and Conditions. The Promoter may in its discretion refuse to award any prize to any entrant who fails to comply with these Terms and Conditions.  All relevant instructions on the Promoter’s website (if any) form part of these Terms and Conditions.

4. Entry into the Competition is free.

5. The Competition opens at 12:00am AEDT on Friday February 25 and closes at 11:59pm AEDT on Sunday April 3 (“Competition Period”). Any entry received after the expiry of the Competition Period will be deemed invalid.  No responsibility is accepted for late, lost, delayed or misdirected entries.

6. To enter the Competition, you must:
(i) Come up with an creative / original / thought provoking question to ask Megan Washington   
(ii) Post your question on the competition page at the following address: http://abcdigmusic.net.au/features/be-our-washington-correspondent (“the Website”).


7. While you may enter the Competition as many times as you like, you must submit a properly completed entry form each time you wish to enter the Competition.

8. By submitting your question to the Promoter, you agree the Promoter may contact you seek your permission to record your question over the phone and communicate that recording to the public in all media throughout the world.

9. The entrant whose question is judged by the Promoter’s panel of judges to be the best, most original and creative will win the major prize (“Major Prize Winner”). Chance plays no part in determining the Major Prize Winner.

10. The Major Prize Winner will receive:
(i) 2 x 5 day Festival passes to 2011 Bluesfest, held at Tyagarah Tee Tree Farm 11 kilometres north of Byron Bay and 8 kilometres south of Brunswick Heads. (“Tickets”);
(ii) Up to 6 nights twin-share accommodation for 2 people in a tepee, onsite at Bluesfest.  Tepees include single mattresses, a table, an LED lantern & one parking spot. The winners will be required to bring their own bedding. The tepees are accessible for 6 nights (10.30am, Wed 20 Apr – 10.00am, Tue 26 Apr)  (“Accommodation”); and
(iii) 1 x Festival AAA Pass (“Access pass”), which allows the Major Prize Winner to meet and interview Megan Washington at an allotted time during the Festival  Access is for the Major Prize Winner only, not their guest. This Access Pass must be used in strict accordance with the terms and conditions of Bluesfest.  This access pass will only be available during the time of the interview, not for the whole weekend.
(iv) The interview with Megan Washington will be recorded by an ABC staff member and will be played on-air on ABC Dig Music and will be posted as a downloadable file on the ABC Dig Music website. 

11. Only the Major Prize Winner and a person nominated by the Major Prize Winner are eligible for the Tickets and Accommodation to the 2010 Bluesfest.

12. The Major Prize Winner must comply with any terms and conditions specified by any relevant third party in relation to the Accommodation, Festival Tickets and the use of the Access Pass.

13. You acknowledge and agree that if you are selected as the Major Prize Winner, you hereby grant the ABC an exclusive licence in the interview that is recorded at the Festival to use throughout the world in any media in perpetuity.

14. If you are selected as the Major Prize Winner, you understand and agree your  recorded interview may be edited or adapted at any time by the Promoter in order to:
(i) meet the requirements of broadcasting authorities;
(ii) adhere to any requirements of the ABC Editorial Policies (available at www.abc.net.au/corp );
(iii) ensure your interview meets any legal or classification requirements or to avoid any breach of law;
(iv) use your interview for promotional purposes; and/or
(v) use your interview on other ABC media platforms.

15. The Promoter shall not be responsible for any costs other than the costs of the Tickets and Accommodation. The Major Prize Winner is responsible for all costs associated with using the prize including all transport costs, costs with respect to food and beverages, travel and medical insurance costs and spending money.

16. The Major Prize Winner must be available to redeem the prize on the dates stipulated by the Promoter.  If the Major Prize Winner is not able to redeem the prize on that date, the Promoter may determine another prize winner in its discretion.

17. No component of the prize can be transferred or redeemed for cash. In the event that any of the prizes become unavailable due to circumstances beyond the Promoter’s control, the Promoter reserves the right to provide a similar product to the same or greater value as the original prize, subject to any applicable laws or written directions made under applicable legislation.

18. You warrant that:
(i) all details provided with your entry are true and accurate;
(ii) you have all necessary rights and licences to grant the rights set out in these Terms and Conditions;
(iii) the exercise of the rights granted to the Promoter in these Terms and Conditions will not infringe the rights of any third parties;
and you will indemnify the Promoter against any loss or damage resulting from any breach of these warranties.

19. You acknowledge that the Promoter is under no obligation to exercise any of the rights granted to it by these Terms and Conditions and providing downloads and any communication of your recorded interview to the public by the Promoter is at the complete discretion of the Promoter.

20. You agree that the Promoter may use your entry and any personal details provided to the Promoter for any promotional, marketing and publicity purposes of the Promoter in any media without notice and without any fee being paid to you, subject to the ABC’s Privacy Policy available at http://www.abc.net.au/privacy.htm.   

21. Decisions of the Promoter and its panel of judges are final and will be binding on each person who enters the Competition and no correspondence will be entered into. The name of the Major Prize Winner and the city/town/suburb in which he/she lives will be announced on ABC Dig Music on April 11 and posted on the Website.

22. If there is any event that prevents or hinders the Promoter’s conduct of the Competition or the Promoter’s ability to deliver the prize/s to the prize winner/s of the Competition, the Promoter may, in its discretion, cancel the Competition or select another winner.

23. The Promoter is not responsible for any incorrect or inaccurate information, or for any of the equipment or programming associated with or utilised in this Competition, or for any technical error that may occur in the course of the administration of this Competition. The Promoter assumes no responsibility for any error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, delay in operation or transmission, communications line failure, theft or destruction or unauthorised access to or alteration of entries.

24. To the full extent permitted by the law, the Promoter will not be liable for any injury, damages, expenses, or loss whatsoever (whether direct or consequential) to persons or property as a result of any person entering into the Competition or accepting or using any prize, including without limitation non-receipt of any prize or damage to any prize in transit and the Major Prize Winner’s failure to comply with the terms and conditions specified by any third party in relation to any Accommodation, and/or Tickets as applicable.
