I hesitate to suggest it but when you search "closing" in you do get references to earthquakes and claustrophobia. So I am certain all clues point to New Zealand.

CLUE #8: When we travelled to our first mystery destination Jack, Jill and AT went up a REMARKABLE hill...



This is definitely Queenstown as one of the local skiing areas is "The Remarkables"

You need to submit a specific destination not a country. I put "Queenstown, New Zealand". I suspect "Queenstown" would be OK as well as this is not ambiguous.

I think the clues are a bit lame rather than anything clever.  Clearly this is the Queen, maybe serving fish and chips as a lame gag on the NZ pronunciation of "fush and chups".

Anyway, I think we are agreed that the answer is Queenstown, that is what I have entered.
